Dunhill: Bruyere (3107) (2018)
Product Number: 002-015-4533
While straight renditions of Dunhill's "07" Prince shape aren't exceedingly rare, versions with a mount configuration are, particularly those with a mount like the one on this Group 3 example. Fashioned from ebonite to match the stem, the mount flares dramatically outward, like the bell of a trumpet, adding flourishing line work and making for a striking, eye-catching silhouette. Meanwhile, the bowl retains the design's characteristic plumpness, the base broad-set and tapering slightly toward the rim.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
