Dunhill: Bruyere with Horn (4407) (2016)
Product Number: 002-015-4541
The "07" Prince from Dunhill is an archetypal example of the classic shape, its downturned stem and softly-rounded bowl exuding a supple elegance in hand and in profile. This Group 4 example is fitted with a military mount of dark, smoky horn; it adds a subtle contrast against the Bruyere finish and also allow this piece to be broken down right after a smoke without fear of damage.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
