Dunhill: Cumberland (4120) (2018)
Product Number: 002-015-4548
Dunhill's "20" design is a graceful Cherrywood, offering the sure-sitting posture of a Poker with the added balance of a bent pipe. In this Group 4 rendition, the angle of the flattened heel poises the bowl at a slight cant as the shank and stem angle and curl behind. Commending this piece further is a military mount of a cumberland, matching the namesake stem material of the Cumberland series.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."-Treutt Smith
