Dunhill: Bruyere (5120) (2015)
Product Number: 002-015-4603
This Cherrywood/Poker shape from Dunhill is a sharp-looking pipe, with its forward-inclining bowl giving this beloved, utilitarian form a touch of playfulness. Rendered in Group 5 size, the bowl is generously chambered and the heel flattened, enabling it to sit stably, while the trim, round shank and downturned, vulcanite stem of this "20" piece provides a pleasant balance to the bowl. Elegant and stunning, really, it's featured in the dark, smoky stain of the Bruyere finish.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Angela Robertson
