Dunhill: Collector Shell Briar Bent Dublin (HT) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-4663
With its Collector series, Dunhill deviates from its standard shaping chart and delves into more diverse, creative designs, as with this bent Dublin offering. Bearing an "HT" (hand-turned) stamp, it's clear a lot of talent and effort went into creating this piece. The tall, tapered bowl, with its firm heel displays a forward cant, but it's the shank and stem that really catch the eye. Featuring an angular transition and gestural curve, this Dublin definitely presents a dynamic aesthetic. Dressed in the acclaimed Shell Briar finish, unveiling handsome striations of growth rings, this is a fine-looking pipe, destined for a discerning collector's well-regarded collection. The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later. -Angela Robertson
