Dunhill: Bruyere Quaint Paneled Bent Billiard (5) (2018)
Product Number: 002-015-4683
On Dunhill's standard shape chart, "02" designates the traditional bent Billiard. While that silhouette is represented here, this design adds to it the Foursquare's crisply paneled nature — fitting into the Quaint line, which presents White Spot pipes that don't conform to the English marque's numeric shape chart. Rendered in hearty Group 5 size, this example makes the best use of the design's facets, with plenty of surface area to delight wrapped fingers.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
