Dunhill: Shell Briar Quaint Dublin with Silver (3) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-4766
Dunhill's Quaint series offers up pipes whose shaping falls outside of the marque's standard pipe chart, making for some unique and highly collectible combinations. This straight Dublin features a poised, slightly canted bowl with a pinched, oval shank and is one of the more gracile, gestural renditions we've seen from the English marque. Its trim, elegant proportions are well-suited to a low-profile application of the Shell Briar sandblast and bright sterling silver accent band.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.- Jeffery Sitts
