Dunhill: Bruyere (840) (ODA) (F/T) (2020)
Product Number: 002-015-4779
Dunhill's ODA designation was at one point a type of grade of some sort, but it was often featured on rather large pipes and, thus, is known today as a colloquial signifier of the English marque's largest pipes, even larger than their Group 6 sized pieces. The "800" series is also known for its large pipe sizes, and it's somewhat of a rarity to see an "800" series briar offered as a new pipe due to their limited production numbers as well as how quickly Dunhill collectors and fans of comfort pipes scoop them up. This robust "840" bent Billiard houses an immensely deep chamber within, making this an ideal choice for anyone searching for a dependable comfort pipe. While its proportions are quite muscular and hearty all around, the stem's graceful bend should assist nicely in clenching.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
