Dunhill: Bruyere with Horn (4107) (2017)
Product Number: 002-015-4848
An uncommon variation of Dunhill's "07" Prince shape, this Group 4 example combines a straight stem arrangement with a military mount of genuine horn. It's those two elements together that make it unusual; straight-stemmed "07" renditions are common enough, but as far as those with a horn mount go, they are a relative rarity, making this Prince all the more appealing — especially as the creamy tones of the horn contrast against the rich, ruby hue of the Bruyere finish.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.- Chuck Stanion
