Dunhill: Cumberland with Silver (5103) (2019) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-4873
An oval-shanked rendition of Dunhill's classic "03" Billiard, this pipe lends further visual prominence to the bowl due to the decreased height of the shank. Typically such versions of the "03" are on the smaller end of the English marque's size spectrum, ranging from Group 1 to 3; however, this pipe presents bold, Group-5 proportions, the bowl even more dominant in profile. Furthering the uniqueness of this piece, it's accented by sterling silver, separating the cumberland stem from the ruddy sandblast of the namesake series.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."-Truett Smith
