Dunhill: Shell Briar Quaint Bent Brandy (5) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-4914
In Group 5 size, this bent Brandy from The White Spot houses an exceptionally deep chamber well suited to relaxing smoking sessions. As part of the Quaint series, this is a more individual shape, not ascribing to the English marque's standard "33" Brandy design. Instead this piece is more reserved in its upward taper, exhibiting and Egg-like rounded and fitted to a more straight shank with a demurely downturned stem.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.-Truett Smith
