Dunhill: Amber Root (3201) (2018)
Product Number: 002-015-5075
The preference between tapered and saddle stems is a personal one, but saddle-stemmed pipes are a touch more rare from Dunhill than tapered-stem varieties. Apple and saddle stem aficionados, then, will appreciate this Group 3 rendition, the stem creating a sleeker and slightly more lightweight profile that draws the eye forward to the classically rounded bowl. This is a versatile, archetypal rendition of the iconic shape, especially dressed in the timeless hue of the Bruyere finish.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
