Dunhill: Bruyere Quaint Bent Dublin (3) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-5083
On Dunhill's standard shape chart, the classic bent Dublin is designated as the "14" design. The Quaint series, however, expands on traditional design, offering more creative, non-standard forms that don't ascribe to The White Spot's systematized shape numbers. This Quaint iteration is one such pipe, characterized by a sharply pointed heel for a Pickaxe-like profile. Otherwise, the bowl's flares and the elegant curve of shank and stem are similar to that of the "14," but the heel creates a noticeably distinct and more angular aesthetic in profile.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
