Dunhill: Cumberland (5204) (2017)

Product Number: 002-015-5106

This heartily proportioned Bulldog, with its gently sloped ridgeline and boldly defined diamond shank, epitomizes a Dunhill shape chart standard. The tall, upright bowl, while providing a thick-walled chamber that leaves plenty of room for a quality smoke, balances out the crisp lines of the shank and stem with its softer, more robust shape. The Cumberland finish brings out the exquisite birdseye on either side of the bowl and creates a rich texture in hand. The bridled vulcanite stem acts as a lean punctuation to the muscularity of the stummel and perfectly compliments the sandblast.

When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe-smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
