Dunhill: Chestnut (5406) (2015)
Product Number: 002-015-5116
With its robust bowl and thickly chambered walls, this Pot from Dunhill is exquisitely balanced in hand and beautifully crafted. This Billiard variant's dark, smoky stain seems to hide the swirling pattern of birdseye and flame grain at first glance, but in the light, the grain flashes in brief streaks. The gently tapered stem moves off the shank face and downturns slightly, accentuating the upright and sturdy disposition of the Pot's bowl. The cumberland stem adds a streamlined balance to the Chestnut finish, making for a shadowy, sleek profile.
A sibling to the Cumberland, Dunhill's Chestnut finish was inaugurated in 1983 to commemorate the closing of the Cumberland Rd. warehouse for which the Cumberland finish was named. Like the Cumberland, pipes in the Chestnut line wear the same dark, smoky stain and are fitted to stems of cumberland but feature a silky smooth, glossy finish compared to the Cumberland's rugged sandblast.--Davin Hylton
