Dunhill: Shell Briar Quaint Rhodesian (2) (2018) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-015-5178

Dunhill's Quaint line is comprised of designs that may resemble traditional shapes but aren't found on the marque's standard pipe chart, as evidenced by this Acorn-like Rhodesian. Rendered in small Group 2 size, the curvaceous, forward-canted bowl is diminutive, with a subtle ridgeline beneath its tapered rim, while the lithely bent shank-and-stem combination stretches out for a sleek balance. Able to sit sturdily, thanks to the heel's paneled base, this charming pipe is dressed in the marque's popular Shell Briar sandblast.

The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
