Dunhill: Bruyere Silver with Army Mounted (2102) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-5234
Dunhill's "02" bent Billiard is one of the English marque's most iconic and popular shapes, with its fluid lines and well-balanced proportions having come to embody the craft of traditional pipe making. This rendition scales those features down to a compact, pocket-friendly Group 2 size. Shape wise, the high-kicking shank carries momentum off the sweeping heel to the arc of the tapered stem, resulting in a sleek S-curve that ensures a relaxed, hands-free smoking posture, while the petite bowl sits firmly at the front of the pipe. The sterling silver mount at the shank end adds a flashy accent to the dark tones of the Bruyere finish and black vulcanite stem, while increasing the tenon's stability and enabling the piece to be broken down, even while still hot.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.--Davin Hylton
