Dunhill: Bruyere (3406) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-5238
The stummel of this pipe represents Dunhill's "06" Pot rendition, characterized by a traditional broad and squat bowl, but the "4" in the nomenclature denotes The White Spot's slightly elongated, subtly downturned stem version, lending this pipe an elegant, Prince-line gesture in profile. Such svelte lines soften the otherwise muscular disposition inherent to the Pot, and it's further elevated by a flaring vulcanite mount at the shank end for a touch of flourishing line work.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
