Dunhill: Cumberland with Silver (5105) (2016) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-015-5249

The "05" Dublin on Dunhill's shape chart is a design that scales exceptionally well across the English marque's various Group sizes. By that, I mean that if judging only by pictures, a certain rendition's true size is difficult to determine because The White Spot's shaping and proportions are so balanced and coherent. That said, this Group 5 rendition impresses with bold dimensions and hearty proportions even from the pictures alone. It houses a generous chamber within the tall, flaring bowl, and the stout shank matches the bowl's robustness, the stummel dressed in the Cumberland line's ruddy sandblast. An elegant silver band elevates it further, providing a nice visual break at the shank end and an enduring touch of class.

When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
