Dunhill: Root Briar with Silver (5117) (2020)
Product Number: 002-015-5271
This Bulldog from Dunhill offers a truly classic design in fine fit and finish, with some really nice grain thrown in on the bargain. The last two numbers of the stamp designate this rendition as the English marque's "17" shape, defined by a muscular, tapered, squat bowl and a crisp diamond shank. Said shank is crowned by an intricate silver band, an enhancement that neatly divides the pale Root Briar finish of the stummel from a sleek vulcanite stem. Offered in the English marque's second-largest Group 5 size, it wraps a broad chamber in thick, insulating walls, and stretches well past six inches in length.
The highest honor for a Dunhill pipe is to receive the prestigious Root Briar appellation. Root Briars have been coveted by pipe smokers ever since they first debuted in 1931, due to the fact that each pipe must boast briar completely free of even the most minor of blemishes. Dunhill has the strictest of standards and expectations for quality with all of their pipes, and so any block of briar that comes to bear the Root Briar stamp must indeed be superlative.- Joel Balyeat
