Dunhill: Root Briar with Silver (5108) (2020) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-5272
Rendered in hearty Group 5 size, this Bulldog from Dunhill possesses the form's characteristic bold, muscular shaping. Two beadlines demarcate the domed rim from the rest of the bowl while the diamond shank angles upward from the low-set transition, providing a touch of angularity and balancing the plump proportions of the bowl in profile. A tapered stem of jet-black vulcanite tops off the design and makes a sleek downturn for a comfortable smoking posture. A sterling silver accent marks the junction between shank and stem, adding a dose of regal flash to the pipe's composition. The stummel wears the warm Root Briar finish that showcases some sweeping flame grain across one flank of the bowl and a constellation of birdseye across the other. Plump, firm, and offering a considerable in-hand presence, this piece exudes the refined English charm for which the marque is known.
The highest honor for a Dunhill pipe is to receive the prestigious Root Briar appellation. Root Briars have been coveted by pipe smokers ever since they first debuted in 1931, due to the fact that each pipe must boast briar completely free of even the most minor of blemishes. Dunhill has the strictest of standards and expectations for quality with all of their pipes, and so any block of briar that comes to bear the Root Briar stamp must indeed be superlative.--Davin Hylton
