Dunhill: Bruyere (1110) (2021)
Product Number: 002-015-5290
Group 1 pipes are a part of Dunhill's standard fare, yet compared to all the other Group sizes, they're considerably rare, and collectors are often on the look out for favorite shapes in Group 1 size. For fans of the Liverpool, Dunhill presents this petite "10." It's of Nosewarmer length and featherweight dimensions, making for a slender and svelte disposition all around and presenting quite the proportional departure from the marque's more robust pieces. Dressed here in the Bruyere finish, its traditional form remains handsomely understated.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
