Dunhill: Cumberland (2302) (2021) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-015-5315

Dunhill's "02" bent Billiard is one of the English marque's most iconic and time-honored shapes, offering well-balanced proportions and a fluid, curvaceous profile. This particular rendition of the shape is in a petite Group 2 size and features a demure bowl paired to a high-kicking shank and a lengthy, arcing, tapered stem of brindled vulcanite. The stem deftly complements the tone of the Cumberland sandblast that dresses the stummel, lending the piece some stimulating texture and handsomely accentuating the natural grain orientation of the briar, with the rim left smooth for a note of contrast.

When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe-smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
