Dunhill: Chestnut (3229) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-5360
Dunhill's "29" shape is a classic Author design, though it's not one of the most oft-seen pieces from the English marque. Even more rare are saddle-stemmed renditions, making this Group 3 rendition all the more appealing to Dunhill collectors and fans of classic English shapes in general. The negative space of the mouthpiece here lends even more visual prominence to the stummel's stout shaping — the robustness of the shank continuing into the plump, Apple-like bowl for a comforting in-hand feel.
A sibling to the Cumberland, Dunhill's Chestnut finish was inaugurated in 1983 to commemorate the closing of the Cumberland Rd. warehouse for which the Cumberland finish was named. Like the Cumberland, pipes in the Chestnut line wear the same dark, smoky stain and are fitted to stems of cumberland but feature a silky smooth, glossy finish compared to the Cumberland's rugged sandblast.-Truett Smith
