Dunhill: Chestnut Quaint Vest Pocket (4) (2021) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-5364
Dunhill's Quaint series showcases designs not otherwise seen on the English marque's standard shape chart and this Vest Pocket is actually one of the more traditional forms we've seen from the Quaint line. The Vest Pocket shape is a convenient design, being pinched at the flanks for an oval orientation that's easily slipped into a jacket pocket without being cumbersome or bulky and dates back to when operas, tuxedos, and pipes all went hand in hand. The mouthpiece can also be turned 180 degrees over the stummel to make this piece even more pocket-friendly without interrupting any tailored lines. That said, the Chestnut finish dressing the briar makes the surface smooth and all the more pocketable, its deep stain revealing handsome, swirling cross grain on both flanks in a subdued, classy palette.
A sibling to the Cumberland, Dunhill's Chestnut finish was inaugurated in 1983 to commemorate the closing of the Cumberland Rd. warehouse for which the Cumberland finish was named. Like the Cumberland, pipes in the Chestnut line wear the same dark, smoky stain and are fitted to stems of cumberland but feature a silky smooth, glossy finish compared to the Cumberland's rugged sandblast.
