Dunhill: Shell Briar (4107) (2018) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-5413
Dunhill offers both bent and straight versions of their "07" Prince, and while the downturned iteration is certainly elegant, I find the straight rendition to be even classier — exuding arrow-straight crispness and a clean sleekness through the profile. It's offered here in versatile Group 4 size, the streamlined nature of the shank and elongated stem furthered by a vulcanite military mount.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.-Truett Smith
