Dunhill: Bruyere (5233) (2020) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-5497
Dunhill's "33" bent Brandy is a fairly uncommon shape, though not unseen by any stretch, however, throughout our entire history, we have never seen one in Group 5 dimensions paired to a saddle stem. This rare iteration comes to us in the "33," a more Volcano-like form, with a broad, flat base that features a wrapping ridgeline centered just above it, and a low-set, sharply angled transition. The bowl here, in traditional Brandy fashion, tapers gently as it reaches toward the rim, and has been given a bit of extra height thanks to the larger group size, offering you a more capacious chamber and, by proxy, longer smoking sessions. The striking arrangement of the shank and stem, as well as the latter's sleek curvature, not only lend this pipe a stately stature, but a more comfortable smoking posture that is sure to make sipping smoke all the more enjoyable. The warm auburn hues of the Bruyere finish dress this pipe, revealing some handsome grain and offering a timeless aesthetic that is sure to make this piece a favored member of any collection.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-John McElheny
