Dunhill: Cumberland Quaint Acorn (3) (2021) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-5507
The Acorn is not one of Dunhill's common shapes, most often seen as this one is, as part of their Quaint line, comprising pipes that differ from their standard fare and offer an additional element of collectibility. A versatile Group 3-sized, bowl perches pertly at the end of a lithe, oval arch of gradually inflating shank and stem, expanding to a high waistline before curving back in at the flat, smooth rim. It looks quite organic in Dunhill's Cumberland sandblast, with the dark hues of stummel and stem working to foster a rugged, pastoral aesthetic.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe-smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."- Joel Balyeat
