Dunhill: Shell Briar (2407) (2021) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-5549
Presented in a trim Group 2 size, this "07" Prince from Dunhill is a light weight, languidly curved rendition of the shape-chart standard. The round, bulbous bowl is perched at the front of of a sleek shank and a lengthy, tapered stem of jet-black vulcanite. The mouthpiece provides a subtle curvature to the design, its gentle arc promoting a comfortable, hands-free smoking posture. The stummel wears the handsome, dark Shell Briar sandblast, which coaxes out some tidy stacks of Growth rings across surface of the briar.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.--Davin Hylton
