Dunhill: Shell Briar (4102) (2014) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-5562
Among the most recognizable and iconic shapes on The White Spot's chart, Dunhill's "02" bent Billiard is as classic a shape as they come. With a softly rounded heel and upright bowl, it offers a wonderful in-hand feel as well as jaw-clenching comfort, and this particular, Group 4 rendition features a dramatically flaring military mount, adding a touch of fancy to the otherwise traditional form. Said mount is fashioned from jet-black vulcanite, matching with the stem and fitting stain of the Shell Briar sandblast.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
