Dunhill: Shell Brair (4612) (2020) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-5574
On The White Spot's standard shape chart, the "12" designates a classic Stack: a Billiard but with the bowl proportionately taller for greater chamber depth. Those digits comprise the last two spots in this pipe's four-digit stamp, and the "6" represents the stem style, a long, lithe Churchwarden version. The configuration is a rarer one from Dunhill, making this a collectible pipe, and the deep chamber combined with the stem's relaxing smoking posture make for quite comfortable armchair smoking sessions.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipesmoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
