Dunhill: Shell Briar White Spot Pot with Silver (4) (R) (F/T) (2777) (2017) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-5606
A special series from Dunhill, the White Spot line resurrects vintage Dunhill shapes featuring the English marque's retro stamping conventions and a sterling silver band emblazoned with "The White Spot." Presented here is a muscular Pot, hearkening to the 1960s with its "F/T" and circled "4" stamps to designate the fishtail bit and Group size, respectively. Typically, the "R" stamp signified a Root finish; however, it also designated Dunhill's classic Pot design, which is presented here. As a Dunhill, the proportions and shaping are spot on, making for a quintessential take on the iconic form that exudes class and traditional appeal.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.-Truett Smith
