Dunhill: Bruyere (3111) (2021) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-5691
Though occasionally rendered in other Group sizes, I find that Dunhill's "11" Lovat is at its best in Group 3. The proportions are simply spot on and the overall size is generous in hand yet versatile enough to clench or easily stow in a pocket. It's the perfect everyday pipe, especially in the Bruyere finish — the iconic, ruby-tinged stain evocative of early-20th century pipes.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
