Dunhill: Bruyere (5101) (2018) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-5697
Across Dunhill's Group sizes, the "01" Apple varies in terms of plumpness, with some quite voluptuous and others quite slender. This Group 5-sized offering is of the former variety, presenting a full-bodied bowl with a Brandy-like taper from its plump heel to its tauter rim. The shank end features an military mount that's fitted to a tapered, push-style stem, both components enabling easy disassembly, even while the pipe is still hot. The smoky Bruyere smooth finish dresses the stummel and highlights a dense field of birdseye across the fore of the bowl.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.--Davin Hylton
