Dunhill: Bruyere (4110) (2018) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-5931
Typically, Dunhill's "10" shape is a classic iteration of the traditional Liverpool, and in silhouette, that's exactly what's presented here — the bowl upright and stolid, with the shank elongated and the tapered stem abbreviated. In hand, however, you'll notice that the shank bears a Foursquare-like orientation, the edges also paneled with trimmer facets for a thoroughly geometric and architectural touch. Such a unique accenting touch allows the pipe to sit upright and is something not often seen in Dunhill's standard line, usually reserved for the Quaint series, making this a rare offering in handy Group 4 size.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
