Dunhill: Cumberland (2101) (2021) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-015-5940

Presented in petite Group 2 size, this "01" straight Apple is a trim, lightweight design that is perfectly suited for on-the-go smoking and easy carry. The small, neatly round bowl rests affably at the front of a sleek, arrow-straight shank-and-stem combination, offering a tidy, streamlined profile. The shank balances with the proportions of the bowl before being outpaced by a tapered stem of brindled vulcanite. The stummel wears the smoky, earth-toned Cumberland sandblast, which coaxes out some rippling waves of growth rings across the fore and aft of the bowl, while striking birdseye rests across the bowl's flanks.

When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe-smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
