Dunhill: Cumberland (4407F) (2017) (9mm) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-5953
One of the English marque's most recognizable shapes, this "07" Prince from Dunhill is a testament to the high standard of quality to which the iconic company holds its work. One of the more elegant shapes on the chart, this Prince is possessed of subtle, supple curvature, the stem only slightly bent, shank nearly straight, while the bowl rests on a gently lifted heel, its flared waistline complimented by the angle of the transition. The rim slants forward, tying together the composition's curves with a gentle slope, giving the stummel a demure character to match the litheness of the stem. Dressed handsomely in the warm, earthy sandblast of the Cumberland finish, this regal pipe is sure to impress and comes fitted with a 9mm filter as part of the White Spot's "F" series.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe-smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
