Dunhill: Shell Briar (3122) (2021) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-5982
Dunhill's "22" Poker exudes traditionalism, displaying a classic profile and possessing the ability to sit sturdily upon flat surfaces. A handsome, utilitarian design, the flattened rim reinforces the design's clean, crisp lines. It's here dressed in the Shell Briar sandblast and rendered in Group 4 proportions, featuring a robust, Barrel-esque bowl up front with the vulcanite stem tapering gradually and gracefully toward the lip button.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
