Dunhill: Shell Briar with Silver (3104) (2021) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6019
Part of a limited release that pairs the Shell Briar finish with cumberland stems, this Bulldog from Dunhill is a fresh take on the shape chart standard by the renowned English marque. Rendered in sleek Group 3 proportions, this is a softer rendition of the Bulldog, forgoing beadlines to allow the briar's natural grain to accentuate the ridgeline that defines the tapered upper bowl. The diamond shank meets an etched silver accent band at the junction to the cumberland stem. The stummel is dressed in Dunhill's Shell Briar sandblast, revealing handsome growth rings around the bowl. With such a fetching combination of timeless Dunhill features, this piece will make an eye-catching and highly collectible addition to any pipe rack.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
