Dunhill: Bruyere (2101) (2019) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6092
This Group 2 iteration of Dunhill's "01" straight Apple is a pleasantly plump, balanced take on the traditional form with the bowl's breadth almost identical to its height. Despite its smaller proportions, there's still enough chamber tucked away inside to ensure a respectably lengthy, relaxing smoke. Aesthetically, this example is also one of the most gorgeous pieces I've personally come across from the legendary English marque. I already have a soft spot for shape chart standards and to see one dressed in the iconic, ruby-tinged stain of the Bruyere finish really grabbed my attention.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
