Dunhill: Bruyere Quaint Rhodesian (3) (2021) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-015-6096

Dunhill's Quaint series offers shapes that aren't found on the English firm's standard pipe chart, and for that reason, the pipes in the series are highly collectable and tend to be quite unique, as evidenced by this Group 3-sized Rhodesian. Squat and broad, the bowl here closely resemble that of a Tomato, what with its expansive girth and saucer-like shape. It's recognizable as a Rhodesian, however, by the crisp ridgeline that demarcates the domed rim from the rest of the bowl. The bowl is paired to an arrow-straight shank-and-stem arrangement that keeps the overall form sleek and streamlined, not to mention lightweight. It's dressed in the ruby hues of the Bruyere smooth finish, which highlights an impressive array of grain about the bowl.

The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
