Dunhill: Bruyere with Bamboo (4107) (2020) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-015-6104

While it's well-known that Dunhill has produced bamboo-adorned pipes for decades, I'm always pleasantly surprised to come across one and rarely ever assume it's a Dunhill. The addition of bamboo always makes for a slightly organic aesthetic, contrasting the more austere English style the marque is famous for. That's manifested here in a squat, Group 4-sized rendition of the "07" straight Prince, the shank extended with two knuckles of bamboo. While these more organically inclined pipes stand out within Dunhill's portfolio, they're always paired with the marque's iconic finishes, with this particular example presented in the smoky Bruyere finish.

The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
