Dunhill: Cumberland with Silver (3103) (2020) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6118
This classic Billiard by Dunhill is a fine example of the English marque's "03" shape, widely regarded as the archetypal Billiard. The pert bowl sits at the fore a perfectly balanced round shank with a subdued heel and straight walls. The shank is further elevated by an elegant silver band where it joins a tapered vulcanite stem in a light brown palette not often seen from Dunhill. The stummel is dressed in Dunhill's Cumberland sandblast in a pleasant complement to the tapered stem.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe-smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."-Gabriel Bass
