Dunhill: Shell Briar (5122) (2017) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-015-6199

A robust rendition of the Poker, this "22" from Dunhill is a thoroughly English example of the classic shape. The inward sloping rim around the sizable chamber crowns the straight walls of the bowl. The heel is flattened with a low transition allowing the pipe sit upright, characteristic of the Poker's utilitarian nature. The round shank is joined to a smartly tapered vulcanite stem, making this pipe ideal for hands-free smoking. Dressed in Dunhill's crisp Shell Briar sandblast, this jet-black pipe boasts an elegant yet rugged aesthetic.

The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
