Dunhill: Shell Briar Quaint Bent Egg (5) (2018) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6205
Composed of pipes that fall outside Dunhill's standard shape chart, the Quaint series offers more stylized interpretations of traditional shapes, all rendered with the English marque's impeccable attention to detail. This bent Egg features a tall bowl, softly rounded with generous chamber capacity, paired to an abbreviated oval shank fitted with a comfortably bent vulcanite stem. Dressed in Dunhill's Shell Briar sandblast, the stummel offers plenty of engaging texture and comfort in-hand.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
