Dunhill: Ring Grain (6103) (2021) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6220
Presented in robust Group 6 size, the largest on Dunhill's standard shape chart, this "03" Billiard features a tall, upright bowl that rises proudly at the fore of an arrow-straight shank-and-stem arrangement. The bowl, shank, and stem are all harmoniously balanced within the composition, resulting in a comfortable in-hand presence and a rather sleek silhouette. The bowl houses a rather deep chamber within its thick insulating walls, ensuring plenty of leisurely smoking sessions. Dressed in the shadowy Shell Briar sandblast, the stummel displays vivid waves of grain that earned this piece the English marque's coveted Ring Grain designation.
Having earned the English marque's prestigious Ring Grain designation, this Dunhill piece wears a particularly choice iteration of the Shell Briar sandblast — displaying stunning waves of ring grain across the stummel. The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
