Dunhill: Millennium Hallmark Shell Briar with Silver (5102) (2021) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6239
A tall bent Billiard of well-balanced, hearty Group 5 proportions, this "02" from Dunhill aligns a gently tapering, rounded bowl to a sinuous S-curve for an alluring, clean-lined silhouette. This particular piece is part of the English marque's Millennium Hallmark line of pipes and as such is accented with an intricately designed, gleaming silver band. Boasting a rather formal dress pipe aesthetic, it's wearing the jet-black Shell Briar finish.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.-John McElheny
