Dunhill: Bruyere (1421) (2018) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6263
A slender, lithe offering from Dunhill, this "21" Zulu is rendered in demure Group 1 size, offering a pipe that is nothing if not svelte and gracile. The subtle forward cant of the bowl imbues this piece with a gentle momentum. The bowl's easy flare is followed by a wide, elongated transition and a Prince-like shank and stem, the latter of which makes an understated curve out back. The form's stunninggprofile is accentuated by the smoky hues of the Bruyere finish, which keeps the palette quite reserved and handsome.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.--Davin Hylton
