Dunhill: Bruyere (3101) (2015) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6268
This is a slightly different take on Dunhill's "01" Apple: The bowl is Group 3 size, but the shank and stem exude the slender sleekness of a Group 1 rendition. Such proportions create a visual disparity between the larger, more voluptuous bowl and the trim shank-and-stem combination, contrasting against The White Spot's conventionally balanced relative proportions. Accentuating this further is the slightly drooping heel, poising the bowl on the end. It's quite a compact rendition, too, offering a lightweight and pocket-friendly package that's ready for on-the-go smoking sessions.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
