Dunhill: Bruyere (5104) (2017) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6292
Dunhill's "04" Bulldog can vary quite a bit depending on its Group size. Here in Group 5 designation, this particular rendition is on the taller, more slender end of the shaping spectrum, emphasizing the long taper below the bowl's beadlines. Likewise, the proportions between bowl and shank are balanced and indicative of Dunhill's classic shaping style. The sharp, tapered heel lends some firmness to the profile, matched by the hard lines of the diamond shank and stem, and it's presented in the rich, ruby-tinged stain of the Bruyere line.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Gabriel Bass
